12 August 2014: International Youth Day
The International Youth Day is celebrated every 12th August as declared by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme chosen for this year is “Youth and Mental Health” under the slogan ‘Mental Health Matters’. On this day, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth (OSGEY) are organising an event to raise awareness on youth with mental health conditions, as well as highlight the experiences of brave, young individuals who have chosen to speak out on these issues, with the objective of overcoming stigma and discrimination.
The event is free and will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, from 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM (PDT).
